The Impact Cycle in Action

Real coaches, real teachers and real classrooms = real coaching.

This is the only coaching course where you can experience the reality of coaching in a real school environment. The instructional coaching course is delivered by Growth Coaching International (GCI) under our partnership agreement with Instructional Coaching Group (ICG), in collaboration with The Crowther Centre at Brighton Grammar

This practical course is designed for leaders, teachers, and instructional coaches who want to explore The Impact Cycle and see it in action over the course of three days. Each day will incorporate a variety of classroom visits, coaching demonstrations, coaching practice, strategies to implement coaching and ‘Ask Me Anything’ sessions with current instructional coaches and leaders.

About The Impact Cycle in Action

Designed around the key themes of the book - The Impact Cycle: What Instructional Coaches Should Do to Foster Powerful Improvements in Teaching - the aim of this course is to support educators in establishing instructional coaching cycles that lead to improved teaching and student learning.

The course is for anyone who works alongside teachers to help them develop their practice. This course is also for educational leaders seeking model of instructional leadership to enhance teacher agency, and student learning and engagement.

Participants will explore the following questions: 

  • What are the Partnership Principles and should I ground my coaching in them? 
  • What should be my approach to coaching? 
  • How do instructional coaches identify goals with teachers? 
  • How should instructional coaches go about explaining and modelling teaching strategies? 
  • How do coaches partner with teachers to make adaptations until goals are met? 
  • How can I establish or set up effective instructional coaching in my setting?
Structure
The sessions within this course will also include a variety of ‘in action’ learning, including: classroom visits, coaching demonstrations, coaching practice, ‘Ask Me Anything’ times with current instructional coaches and leaders.
Learning Design

Research-informed, practitioner-focused is an important principle that underpins all our work at GCI, and this course is no exception. 

This course combines two decades of research on instructional coaching by Dr Jim Knight and colleagues at The University of Kansas Centre for Research on Learning with over 8 years of implementation across a whole school by a team of committed leaders and coaches. It provides key information, insights and practices to help boost instructional coaching in your setting.

Certification

A GCI Certificate is issued to each individual completing this course.
